Our team of teachers within the Middle School work collaboratively to ensure that recognized practice associated with middle schooling enhances the quality of learning for all students by using a variety of curriculum, pedagogical and assessment strategies. Our Middle School has specialist teachers who teach the depth of knowledge and understanding of The Australian Curriculum across Years 5 to 8 with access to purpose built facilities. These include Science Laboratories, Art and Music centres, Industrial Arts work rooms and Communication, Technology and Design materials and equipment. Pastoral Support Programs

Tutor Teachers

Your child will have a teacher who they meet with during each day.  This teacher will oversee your child’s transition to Middle School from a pastoral and academic perspective and communicate with you on your child’s progress.

Middle School Teachers

We have a core group of teachers that teach within the Middle School and know the children well. Our teachers work as a team to ensure student needs are catered for. Teachers meet on a regular basis to ensure student progress is closely monitored.

Year Level Meetings

Regular year level meetings provide support for students with their daily organisation, with their understanding of routines and expectations (such as homework and assignments) and importantly is also a forum where students are encouraged to have a voice.

Character Counts Pastoral Program

Our Character Counts Program focusses on the 6 Pillars of Character (Respect, Responsibility, Caring, Citizenship, Trustworthiness and fairness). The pillars of character are reflected in our Middle School assemblies and Chapel services our behaviour management and our Pastoral programs in each year level

Leader in Me Day

We believe all students can lead and provide opportunities for students through Leadership and Service opportunities from Year 5. Students in Year 7 have the opportunity of being a member of a committee group (Media, Chapel/Assemblies, Activities, Grounds and Environment and Fundraising) and participating in a day of leadership training and get to know you activities early in Term 1.

HATS (Homework support)

Monday–Friday from 3.15–4.15 pm staff and senior students are available to assist students in the Middle School with homework and assignments. This is also a wonderful way for our senior students to develop positive relationships with Middle School students.

Transition Support Program

The shift from Year 6 into Year 7 is an efficient and non-threatening step within our Middle School structure. Because Middle School encompasses Years 5 through to Year 8 our purpose built facilities create a sense of ownership of the buildings and surrounds at each year level and allows for gradual exposure to a more senior school environment. Our dedicated core team of teachers have a deep understanding of the needs and challenges of young adolescents and therefore the ability to develop positive relationships and holistic, real-world learning experiences for them.

Buddy Support Program

All new students are allocated several buddies from their class peer group to provide support, friendship and guidance to ease their transition to the Middle School.

Come and Try Day (by appointment)

Be a guest for the day and enjoy a day in the life of a Whitsunday Anglican School Middle School student. Students will be allocated a buddy and experience a typical day of learning experiences.
