Principal's Welcome

Welcome to the Whitsunday Anglican School website. I trust that you will find it informative and interesting and that it leads to a long-term relationship with our School.

Whitsunday Anglican School is a relatively young organisation, having begun operations in 1988. This sense of youthfulness is reflected in the vibrancy of the School and in an underlying attitude that anything is possible as we are not bound by the shackles of the past.

In our short history we have built an impressive record across a broad number of academic and cultural fronts. Our students consistently produce OP results which are amongst the best in the state and NAPLAN results which compare favourably across the nation. More broadly, our students have also been consistently successful in events like the state minister’s award for visual art, public speaking events like the Lions Youth of the Year and in think-tank events like the Model United Nations Youth Forum.

Whilst we have an academic focus, this is backed by a strong pastoral underpinning which seeks to assist students in optimising their potential for success in life by building in them the habits of self-belief, persistence and resilience.

All of what we do at Whitsunday Anglican School is informed and driven by our Core Values of:

CHRISTIANITY (through Social Responsibility) – characterised by faith in God, forgiveness, reconciliation, developing a sense of mission/purpose through service to, and compassion and care for others;
TOLERANCE (through Respect) – characterised by openness to a broad range of ideas and concepts, accommodation of multi cultures and faiths, and inclusivity of a wide range of backgrounds;
EXCELLENCE (through Effort) – characterised by the pursuit of optimum outcomes for students in their intellectual, social and artistic endeavours and underlined by our explicit strategies to assist students develop the habits of self-belief, persistence and resilience;
DIGNITY (through Tradition) – characterised by our expectations for a conservative approach to worship, dress, appearance, manners, language, social discourse, rituals and symbols, and;
TRUST (through Co-operation) – characterised by consideration of the needs of the group before the needs of the individual, expressed through collaboration, teamwork, honesty and consistency.

Our direction is clearly defined in our Strategic Plan which seeks to position our students for the world they will come to lead by equipping them with necessary knowledge, skills and attitudes in the areas of Internationalism, Innovation and Information & Communication Technologies. This is available elsewhere on this website for those who wish to find more detail.

Thank you for your interest in our School. I trust it has been helpful in assisting you to imagine your future at Whitsunday Anglican School.

Yours sincerely,
Mr A J Greer, MEd, BEd, DipT, Cert IV WAT, GAICD, MACE, MACEL
