Queen’s Baton Relay
Whitsunday Anglican School Year 10 student Lulu Piperone was the first baton bearer for the Mackay leg of the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018 Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) this week.
Lulu, a talented AFL player, was selected to be a baton bearer last year and said the relay was an experience she would not forget and was overwhelmed by the support shown for her during her leg of the relay.
“To have my family, including my grandparents, and the Whitsunday Anglican School community here to support me means the world,” she said.
“This has been an unforgettable experience and an honour that I will never forget.”
Principal Mrs Maria McIvor said it was great to see the Whitsunday Anglican School community, as well as the wider community, support the event and the baton bearers.
“The Whitsunday Anglican School community embraced the opportunity to support Lulu today and we are very proud that she was selected for this honour,” she said.
